What happens to your details when you get in touch about a job, and what this website stores on your device. Plain English, no filler.
Who is responsible for your details
Thelwall Carpentry & Joinery is a family-run carpentry and joinery business working out of Sydney Road, Crewe CW1 4HG, across Cheshire and the North West. We are the data controller for the information described here, which means we decide what is collected and what happens to it. Get hold of us on 07894 549005 or at christhelwall@gmail.com.
What the enquiry form collects, and why
The form on our contact page asks for your name, a phone number, an email address, the type of project, your postcode, and whatever you write about the job.
We use it to reply to you, work out whether the job is one we can take on and where it is, and give you a price. Nothing else. We do not sell your details, we do not pass them on for marketing, and you will not end up on a mailing list.
The lawful basis is legitimate interests while you are enquiring, because answering someone who has asked us to quote is the expected thing to do with what they send. Once work is agreed it becomes performance of a contract with you.
Where your enquiry goes
The form is handled by Netlify, the company that hosts this website. They email the enquiry on to us and keep a copy of the submission in the site's account with them. Our email is on Gmail, so Google holds it too. Ring or email us directly if you would rather not use the form.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that never turn into work are kept for about 12 months and then deleted. People often come back the following year with the next job and it saves them starting again. If we do the work, we keep the job record for six years, because that is how long tax and insurance records need to be held.
Ask us to delete your details sooner and we will, unless the law says we have to keep them.
Who else sees it
- Netlify, who host the site and handle form submissions. They keep ordinary server logs, including your IP address, so the site stays up and secure.
- Google, because our email runs on Gmail.
- Microsoft, through the Clarity tool described below.
- SH Studios Digital Ltd, the web company that built this site and looks after it for us. They act only on our instructions, as our processor, and may see form submissions while keeping the form working.
Nobody else gets your details.
Cookies and measurement
This site uses Microsoft Clarity. It records anonymised heatmaps and session replays, meaning where visitors scroll, tap and give up, so we can see which parts of the site are working and fix the parts that are not. It sets cookies on your device, normally named _clck and _clsk, and Clarity masks the text you type by default.
We should be straight with you: at the moment Clarity loads as soon as the page does, so there is no banner asking you first. If you would rather it did not run, most browsers let you block third-party cookies or use a tracker blocker, and Microsoft's own opt-out is at choice.microsoft.com. We are looking at putting a proper choice on the site.
We also count page views through a simple counter run by SH Studios. It records the page, the site it came from and whether the screen is a phone or a desktop. It also records when someone taps to call, taps WhatsApp, taps the email address or sends the enquiry form, so we can see which ways of getting in touch people actually use. It sets no cookies and stores nothing at all on your device.
There is no advertising, no remarketing and no profiling on this site, and the typefaces are served from our own site rather than a font company.
Your rights
